Most homes have at least 2 television sets if not more. One reason for this is because TVs are becoming cheaper as technology gets better and better. As they become easier to purchase, the more accessories people will start demanding. 5 or 6 years ago it might have cost $700 for a 26 inch TV. Here in the future you can buy a 42 inch high definition TV at Wal-Mart for about the same price. But you will definitely need something to put it on that is not going to wobble or tip over easily. You can choose from a variety of TV units on and offline but there are many things to consider.

As I’ve already mentioned, people will want many accessories for their televisions. You may even have some of them already. There are several different types of DVD players, home theatre systems, game consoles like the Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii, and even the ability to hook up your computer to your TV. Luckily there are TV units that are able capable of housing all of these electronics. Just think what would happen if you didn’t have a proper storage unit and had all of these wires and controllers all over the place. It would be quite a mess I think.

There are a ton of choices to choose from when deciding on a proper TV unit. So let’s look at two of the most common types and styles of TV units.

tv units

1. Glass TV units are a newer favorite among most homes. They add a certain elegance and technological feel to the room. They are usually made from glass, steel, and plastic. These types of TV stands really aren’t recommended if you have younger children. I mean, I’m sure you know that glass is pretty fragile no matter how durable the manufacturer says it is.
2. Wood TV units usually come in two flavors, pine and oak. Oak stands add a really classic feel whereas pine gives a fresh wood feeling that reminds me of anything that is brand new. The downside of oak wood is that it is very heavy. Once you have your oak TV unit in place it is something you won’t want to move around often. Not to mention an oak TV unit is going to cost a small fortunate compared to pine and other soft woods. But again, oak will provide you with a solid base for your electronic investments.

Depending on the look and feel you want to have that supports your TV, you will have to make a decision between the two types of TV units. You can expect to pay anywhere from $150 for a simple bench to a few thousand dollars for something more permanent and elegant. If you have a lot of electronics then you will want to have ample space to store them inside and get them out of the way. Even small rooms can take advantage of corner units so it is best to do some shopping around.
